The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka deposited the Instrument of Accession to the Convention of the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (Ottawa Treaty) on the 13th of December 2017 at the Treaty Section of the United Nations in New York.
Foreign Secretary Prasad Kariyawasam, joined by the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Indrajit Coomaraswamy, and Secretary-General of the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms Mano Tittawella, shared information on Sri Lanka’s journey of peacebuilding with the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission in New York on 20 November.

The Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York hosted a Deepavali celebration on Saturday, 21st October 2017, at the Mission premises. The event brought together members of Sri Lanka’s Hindu community and those of different faiths in the Tri-State area as well as representatives from other UN Missions, including the Permanent Representative of Mauritius and the Deputy Permanent Representatives of India and Nepal.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera delivered the welcome address at the Sri Lanka Tourism Road show which kicked off in New York today (02 October 2017). Tour operators and travel agents including a number of Sri Lankan destination management companies attended the road show which will move to Washington DC and Los Angeles on 03 and 05th October respectively. The road show is organised by the Sri Lanka tourism Promotion Bureau.
President Maithripala addressed the 72nd sessions of the UN General Assembly on 19 September 2017. This was the third time President Sirisena addressed the General Assembly.
