The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York celebrated Sri Lanka’s 69th Anniversary of Independence with a reception held yesterday (February 7th). The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations together with the Sri Lanka community in the Tri State area celebrated Sri Lanka’s 69th anniversary of Independence at the Forest Hill High School in Queens, New York. The event commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem in Sinhala and Tamil followed by two minutes silence in remembrance of all who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Several Sri Lankan Travel Operators are participating in The New York Times Travel Show which is being held from 27th -29th January 2017 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Hon. Arundhika Fernando, Deputy Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Affairs of Sri Lanka and H.E. Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera P.C., Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN declared open the Sri Lanka pavilion at the New York Travel Show today (27th January) in the presence of travel trade businesspersons, travel writers and other officials.
A Panel Discussion entitled “Pathways to Sustainability: Thailand’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy”- chaired by Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai was held at the United Nations Headquarters on 12th January 2017.
Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Rohan Perera served as a panelist of the discussion, and shared his views on how Sri Lanka has benefitted from South-South Cooperation with Thailand, and Sri Lanka’s own contributions to South-South Cooperation.
