The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka hosted an event in commemoration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace at the United Nations Headquarters today (April 6th 2018). April 6th was designated as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace pursuant to GA Resolution A/RES/67/296. The Mission of Sri Lanka co-sponsored the event along with UNESCO-Centre for Global Education, United Africa Football Club and African Cultural Promotions Inc.

Dr. Rohan Perera, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN chaired a commemorative meeting of the General Assembly to mark the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, held on 26 March 2018 in the General Assembly Hall of UN headquarters in New York.

Sri Lanka accedes to the Convention on Cluster Munitions

The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York deposited the instrument of accession to the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 1st March 2018.

President Maithripala Sirisena, as the Minister of Defence, obtained the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to accede to the Convention.
