The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York hosted a Christmas celebration for Sri Lankan community members on 27th December 2017 at the Mission premises. The event commenced with a welcome address by H.E. Dr. Rohan Perera, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka, followed by a short sermon by Rev. Fr. Hashendra.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka deposited the Instrument of Accession to the Convention of the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (Ottawa Treaty) on the 13th of December 2017 at the Treaty Section of the United Nations in New York.
Foreign Secretary Prasad Kariyawasam, joined by the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Indrajit Coomaraswamy, and Secretary-General of the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms Mano Tittawella, shared information on Sri Lanka’s journey of peacebuilding with the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission in New York on 20 November.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Canada to the UN, the Association of War Affected Women, and the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) held a panel discussion under the theme, “Increasing Women in UN Peace Keeping” today (31st October 2017) at the UN headquarters.
