Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera  offers his condolences to UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon on the passing of Mr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, sixth Secretary General of the United Nations (1992 – 1996). Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali was the first Arab and the first from Africa to hold the post.

Sri Lanka co-hosts Coastline Erosion side event at the UN

A side event entitled “Coastline Erosion and its Contribution to Climate Change” co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations was held yesterday (20/01) at the UN Headquarters with the participation of a large number of Permanent Representatives, senior diplomats and members of the civil society.

Sri Lanka signed International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances

Sri Lanka today signed the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances at a simple ceremony held at the Treaty Section of the United Nations. Acting Permanent Representative Mr. A.S. Khan signed this Convention on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, becoming the 95th country to sign this Convention. 

Sri Lanka co-hosts an event to mark the 50th Anniversary of ICERD

Commemorating the occasion of 50th anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka co-hosted a panel discussion titled “Introducing tolerance on the internet - Changing attitudes and patterns of behavior” together with Permanent Missions of Poland, Ghana and Norway, today. The UN Department of Public information, UNESCO and African Union also took part in organizing this event.
