Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera  offers his condolences to UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon on the passing of Mr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, sixth Secretary General of the United Nations (1992 – 1996). Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali was the first Arab and the first from Africa to hold the post. A condolence book was opened at the Meditation Centre of the United Nations Building following a moving tribute this morning, to the memory of His Excellency Boutros Boutros Ghali at the General Assembly Hall, where chairs of regional groups, the United States as the host country and the Permanent Representative of Egypt made statements.

Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera signs the condolence book in the presence of Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon and First Lady Madam Yoo (Ban) Soon-taek. Ambassador Rohan Perera conveyed to the Secretary General his deep appreciation of the work of Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, especially his landmark report, Agenda for Peace: Preventive Diplomacy, Peacemaking and Peacekeeping.
