Celebrating Tuvalu’s 47th Independence Day | New York

The Permanent Representative of Tuvalu to the United Nations, H.E. Dr. Tapugao Falefou, hosted a lunch for the Mission staff to mark Tuvalu’s 47th Independence Day.

It was a moment to reflect on Tuvalu’s journey since 1978 and to celebrate the resilience, identity, and unity of our island nation. Over shared food and fellowship, the Mission family came together to honor the spirit of independence that continues to guide Tuvalu on the world stage.

Happy Independence Day, Tuvalu — 47 years strong. Fakafetai lasi.

Prime Minister Hon. Feleti Penitala Teo held a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres , underscoring Tuvalu’s call for urgent climate action.

The discussions focused on keeping the 1.5°C goal alive, securing international recognition of maritime boundaries, protecting Tuvalu’s statehood and rights, and improving access to climate finance for vulnerable nations.

This meeting reaffirmed Tuvalu’s commitment to ensuring that the voices of small island nations are heard in the global fight against climate change.

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr Pasuna Tuaga represented Tuvalu in a bilateral meeting.

Tuvalu Strengthening Bilateral & Multilateral Ties

On the margins of #UNGA80, Tuvalu reaffirmed its strong ties with Switzerland. The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr Pasuna Tuaga represented Tuvalu in a bilateral meeting.

The discussion underscored the importance of Tuvalu–Switzerland cooperation, including Tuvalu’s prospect of establishing its office in Geneva, and reflected our shared interest in building stronger partnerships.
