A condolence book will be maintained at the Mission premises from 10:00am -4:00pm for three days commencing 23rd April 2019.
The 100th Anniversary of the establishment of the International Labor Organization (ILO) was commemorated at the UN Headquarters in New York at a High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly, held from 10 - 11 April 2019.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York, together with the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations, co-hosted the official Reception on the occasion of the 8th Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum on Monday, 8th April 2019 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Ambassador Dr. Rohan Perera, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations attended an event to Observe International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, at the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations in New York.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York arranged a Buddha pooja, Dhamma Sermon and almsgiving at the New York Buddhist Vihara in Queens, on the 22nd and 23rd of March 2019 respectively, to mark the “Thripitaka Week.” The event also celebrated the initiative of H.E. President Maithripala Sirisena to declare the “Thripitaka” as National heritage and to have it included in the UNESCO “memory of the world” register for the benefit of all mankind.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera speaking during the Sixty-Third Session of the Commission on the Status of Women said that in the past four years, the government has accelerated the implementation of its programs, policies, and action plans to promote gender equality.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN participated at the popular Le Salon du Chocolat (III) event organized by the Arab Ladies at the UN together with the Permanent Mission of Yemen. The event was held at the United Nations Head Quarters in New York, with all proceeds from the sale of chocolates (through a system of coupons) being donated to support the children of Yemen. Last November, the UN Secretary General called the humanitarian situation in Yemen ‘desperate’.
