Sri Lanka as a substantial beneficiary of Humanitarian funding, pledges a sum of USD 10,000 for the work of CERF

The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) held its annual pledging conference today (07 December 2018) at the UNHQ, New York.

Ambassador Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations noted that since the inception of CERF, Sri Lanka had contributed a sum of USD 90,000 and this year had increased its commitment by a sum of USD 5,000 from last year.

The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York hosted an event on the occasion of Deepavali on Friday, 9th November 2018, at the Mission premises. The event saw the attendance of Sri Lankan community members in the Tri-State area, both of Hindu faith and others, as well as representatives from other Permanent Missions including the Permanent Representatives and Deputy Permanent Representatives of India, Singapore, and Malaysia, among others.

Minister of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe told the UN General Assembly today (05 September 2018) that Education is vital in promoting a culture of peace. The Minister was speaking at the High Level Forum for a Culture of Peace convened by the President of the General Assembly.
