The new Permanent Representative of the Independent State of Samoa, Fatumanava Dr. Pa’olelei Luteru presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Thursday 3rd of June 2021. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mrs. Matilda Bartley, Deputy Permanent Representative, to the presentation of credentials ceremony.

The High level meeting to review the progress of SAMOA Pathway was held 27^th September 2019 at the UN Headquarters in New York.  The President of the General Assembly, UN Secretary General and the Prime Ministers of Fiji and Ireland spoke at the opening.  They also invited a youth representative from Papua New Guinea and Hawaii-born “Aquaman” star, who is of Native Hawaiian descent, Jason Momoa to address the meeting.  “Island nations contribute the least to this disaster, but are made to suffer the weight of its consequences,” he said.

The High Level Week of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly is convened from 23rd to 27th September 2019 with five (5) High Level Summits and Dialogues starting with the Climate Summit, The Universal Health Coverage Summit, the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (SDG Summit), the Financing for Development High Level Dialogue and to end with the High level meeting on the Mid Term Review of the SAMOA Pathway.
