First Regular Session of the Executive Boards - UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS

Ambassador Ali’ioaiga Feturi Elisaia delivered Samoa’s national statement at the first regular session 2018 of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on Monday 22nd January 2018. Ambassador took the floor during the UNDP segment following the statement by the UNDP Administrator, Mr. Achim Steiner. He acknowledged the vital work UNDP carries out in supporting developing countries in achieving the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

Ambassador Aliioaiga Feturi Elisaia delivered Samoa’s national statement during the 16th Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on the 7th December 2017.  Samoa became a member of the Bureau of State Parties in 2005 and will conclude its term during the 16th Session of the ASP, making it 12 consecutive years of service.

On the 20th September 2017, the Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons was opened for signature. Samoa was one of the 50 States that signed the Treaty including three states that deposited their instruments of ratification.  Almost a week later, on the 26th September 2017, the United Nations held a High-Level Meeting to commemorate and promote the international day for the total elimination of nuclear weapons. The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was present and emphasized on the cooperation of member states to rid the world of nuclear weapons.
