United Arab Emirates, Norway, Saudi Arabia Brief UN Security Council on High Degree of Sophistication Behind Fujairah Attacks

The Permanent Representatives to the United Nations of the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Norway, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today briefed members of the United Nations Security Council on the preliminary findings of the investigation into the coordinated attacks on four oil tankers that took place on the morning of 12 May 2019 off the port of Fujairah.

NEW YORK – In meetings with senior United Nations (UN) officials, H.E. Dr. Anwar Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, renewed the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen’s firm commitment to the Stockholm Agreement and to the ongoing peace efforts brokered by Martin Griffiths, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen. H.E. Dr. Gargash underscored that Yemen needs a political solution to resolve the conflict, and that the UAE is working to support that solution.

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Gargash, has categorically rejected a report by the Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen, and urged the Human Rights Council (HRC) to instead refocus on providing support to the Government of Yemen in building institutions to protect human rights in the country.

UAE Calls on UN to Hold State-Sponsors of Terrorism Accountable

NEW YORK – On March 28, 2019, the UAE called on the UN to hold Member States accountable for terrorism financing during a UN Security Council Open Debate on combating terrorism financing presided by France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian. Earlier in the meeting, the Council unanimously approved Resolution 2462, introduced by France and co-sponsored by the UAE, requiring Member States to take further steps to prevent and combat terrorism financing.
