Tuvalu marked 25 years of membership at the United Nation - H.E. Dr. Tapugao Falefou, Permanent Representative of Tuvalu to the UN, hosted a reception for the Tuvalu Delegation to celebrate this milestone and to farewell the Tuvalu delegation at the conclusion of UNGA80.
At the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Hon. Feleti Penitala Teo delivered Tuvalu’s national statement, reaffirming Tuvalu’s commitment to global cooperation, climate action, and human rights. This year, September 2025, also marks Tuvalu’s 25th anniversary of membership in the United Nations—a milestone that underscores the nation’s enduring voice and presence on the global stage.
Prime Minister Hon. Feleti Penitala Teo held a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres , underscoring Tuvalu’s call for urgent climate action.
The discussions focused on keeping the 1.5°C goal alive, securing international recognition of maritime boundaries, protecting Tuvalu’s statehood and rights, and improving access to climate finance for vulnerable nations.
This meeting reaffirmed Tuvalu’s commitment to ensuring that the voices of small island nations are heard in the global fight against climate change.
Tuvalu Strengthening Bilateral & Multilateral Ties
On the margins of #UNGA80, Tuvalu reaffirmed its strong ties with Switzerland. The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr Pasuna Tuaga represented Tuvalu in a bilateral meeting.
The discussion underscored the importance of Tuvalu–Switzerland cooperation, including Tuvalu’s prospect of establishing its office in Geneva, and reflected our shared interest in building stronger partnerships.
At a high-level side event during UNGA80 , Prime Minister Hon. Feleti Penitala Teo underscored the urgency of climate accountability for small island developing states. “The accelerating climate crisis is not an abstract concern; it is the lived reality of our daily existence,” he affirmed.
