On behalf of President Bashar al-Assad, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Permanent Representative to the UN, congratulated Chile’s new President Gabriel Boric Font.
That came during the reception by the President of Chile for the presidents, ministers, and representatives of the countries that attended the President’s inauguration ceremony which took place at the Building of the National Congress of Chile in the city of Valparaíso on Friday.
Ambassador Sabbagh conveyed President al-Assad’s greetings to President Boric and best wishes for success in carrying out his new mission and his aspiration to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.
For his part, Chile’s President expressed sympathy with the Syrian people who suffered due to the war over the past years, voicing his country’s readiness to help mitigate the effects of it.
President Boric is the founder and leader of the “Social Convergence” party, who managed to win the second round of the presidential elections that took place on November 22 last year by a wide margin of votes, obtaining 55.87 percent.
Ambassador Sabbagh met during his presence in Chile with a group of Syrian expatriates at the headquarters of the Syrian Club in the capital, Santiago, and explained the latest developments in Syria. He pointed out that Syria was able to foil plot against it thanks to the solidarity of the Syrian people and their rallying around their leadership and army. Ambassador Sabbagh referred to the catastrophic effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union on the Syrian people.
