Statement by General Harindra Peiris, Major General at the Fifth Committee on the status  of reimburesement to TCC's and PCCs by the Department of OperationalSupport of the United Nations

07 September 2022

Under Secretary General, Mr. Athul Khare,
Distinguished Delegates,

I thank the Under Secretary General for the informative presentation on the status of reimbursement to the Troop and Police Contributing countries.

Sri Lanka has contributed Military Forces and Police to the Peacekeeping Missions since 1960 up to date. Their services were commended at the highest level. I can assure that our Military Forces and Police are competent and ready to be deployed in any part of the world as partners of the United Nations.

Sri Lanka recognizes the efforts put in place by the DOS for effectively reimbursing troop and police contributing countries for both personnel and Contingent Own Equipment (COE) in a timely manner, under the able leadership of USG Athul Khare.

It has enhanced the effectiveness of United Nations Peacekeeping and peacekeeping partnership. As a longstanding partner of UN Peacekeeping since 1960s, Sri Lanka has been deploying troops with wealth of experience in counterterrorism as well as in provision of humanitarian assistance. We would like to make it an opportunity to reiterate our unwavering commitment to UN peacekeeping.

In conclusion, while commending the work done by DOS, Sri Lanka look forward to further strengthening cooperation with the Department of Operational Support.

I thank you
