The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka hosted an event in commemoration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace at the United Nations Headquarters today (April 6th 2018). April 6th was designated as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace pursuant to GA Resolution A/RES/67/296. The Mission of Sri Lanka co-sponsored the event along with UNESCO-Centre for Global Education, United Africa Football Club and African Cultural Promotions Inc.
In his capacity as Vice President of the 72nd Session of the UNGA, H.E. Dr. Rohan Perera, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN chaired a commemorative meeting of the General Assembly to mark the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, held on 26 March 2018 in the General Assembly Hall of UN headquarters in New York.
Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine of Sri Lanka was an invited panelist at the first workshop for this year by the International Dialogue on Migration, (IDM) organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) from 26 – 27 March 2018 at the United Nations in New York.
Mrs. Chandrani Bandara, Minister for Women and Child Affairs, this week said that in Sri Lanka, women were the co architects of Sri Lanka’s post-independence welfare state, which ensured free education and health care for all its citizens.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York deposited the instrument of accession to the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 1st March 2018.
President Maithripala Sirisena, as the Minister of Defence, obtained the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to accede to the Convention.
Hon. Eran Wickramaratne, State Minister of Finance is representing Sri Lanka at the First Global Conference of the Platform for Collaboration on Tax, which commenced at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 14th February 2018.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN participated at the popular Le Salon du Chocolat (II) event organized by the Arab Ladies at the UN together with the Permanent Mission of Dominica. The event was held at the United Nations Head Quarters in New York, with all proceeds from the sale of chocolates (through a system of coupons) being donated to support the island of Dominica devastated by hurricane Maria in September 2017.
