Government Coordinates with Diplomatic Community on Flood-Relief and Recovery Actions
A diplomatic briefing was convened on today, 28 November 2025 by the Hon. Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office to brief Colombo-based Heads of Mission on the Government’s ongoing emergency flood-relief operations and recovery efforts.
The briefing focused on ensuring the safety and security of the affected communities and outlined the immediate and aftermath recovery measures.
Most diplomatic missions based in Colombo expressed their solidarity and support for the Government of Sri Lanka during this challenging time. Missions conveyed their readiness to work closely with Sri Lankan authorities in facilitating humanitarian assistance and contributing to ongoing relief and recovery initiatives.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as instructed by the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, established an Emergency Response Unit for effective overall coordination with Sri Lanka’s diplomatic missions abroad and Colombo-based diplomatic missions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism Vijitha Herath chaired a briefing for the members of the Colombo-based Diplomatic Corps at the Ministry on Tuesday, 02 September 2025.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, currently on a state visit to the Maldives, held bilateral discussions with Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu this afternoon (28) at the Maldivian Presidential Office.
Upon his arrival at the Maldivian Presidential Office, President Dissanayake was warmly welcomed by Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, led the Sri Lanka delegation to the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held on 11 July 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the meeting, Minister Herath reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s strong commitment to the core priorities of the ARF, particularly promoting peace, regional stability, and inclusive economic prosperity. He also expressed Sri Lanka’s willingness to engage more closely with the ARF member states in the area of peacekeeping initiatives during the 2025–2026 term
Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, arrived in Canada on June 24, 2025, to attend the Meeting of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Board of Governors in Vancouver.
