Samoa Appointed a member of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) High-Level Panel of Experts

Samoa has been appointed by the President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Abdulla Shahid, as one of the 12 members of the High-Level Panel on the MVI.

The Panel is tasked with finalising work on the MVI by December 2022. The Panel will be co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, H.E. Mr Gaston Browne, and the former Prime Minister of Norway, H.E. Ms Erna Solberg. Other members of the Panel were drawn from the Private sector, civil societies and acadamia.

President Edouard Fritch met with Ambassador Fatumanava III Pa'olelei Luteru

The President of French Polynesia, H.E. Mr. Edouard Fritch, visited the Permanent Mission of Samoa to United Nations on Tuesday 5 October 2021. President Fritch was accompanied by Mr. Manuel Terai, Permanent Secretary for International Affairs and Mr. Engel Raygadas, Deputy Permanent Secretary.

ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE INDEPENDENT STATE OF SAMOA AND THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Independent State of Samoa and the Dominican Republic have formally established diplomatic relations with effect from 23 September 2021. The Joint Communiques were signed between H.E. Mr. Roberto Alvarez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, and H.E. Fatumanava-o-Upolu III Dr. Paolelei Luteru, Permanent Representative of Samoa to the United Nations, at the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic in New York.

The United Nations calls on Samoa to uphold its commitment to ending all forms of violence against women and girls, including violent threats, intimidation, verbal and physical harassment and abuse and stands ready to support all actors in their efforts to achieve this goal.
