MONGOLIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS HIS ITALIAN COUNTERPART

Today Minister of Foreign Affairs L. Purevsuren met with his Italian counterpart Mr. Paolo Gentiloni during the United Nations General Assembly's 70th session in New York.

During the meeting Ministers exchanged views on Mongolian, Italian relations and cooperation, specifically on extending and deepening economic cooperation between the countries. Upon the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Italy, Foreign Minister L. Purevsuren noted about his visit to the Italian Republic, organization of a cultural event and business forum within the scope of the Milan Expo. He also noted that Mongolia is interested in having Italian government scholarships for Mongolian students, specifically in training of talented artists and singers. The two sides also discussed about further strengthening parliamentary relations between the countries, opening of the Italian Embassy in Ulaanbaatar and organization of a Joint Committee meeting between the two governments.   

Foreign Minister also emphasized the potential of developing concrete cooperation in the agricultural field, particularly in leather and cashmere production, bringing the Italian leather processing technology and design to Mongolia and increasing leather and cashmere products trade between the two countries.

Also the Ministers discussed about multilateral cooperation issues of mutual concern. Mongolia is one of the candidatures for the UN Human Rights Council elections to be held in October 2015 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council at the elections to be held in 2022. Minister also reaffirmed his hope that Italy will participate in the ASEM summit to be held in Mongolia in 2016 at the high-level and rxpressed his interest to get support within the preparation work for the ASEM 2016 Summit meeting, as host country of the ASEM 2014 Summit.
