LANDLOCKED DEVELOPING COUNTRIES MET AT HIGH LEVEL

H.E. Mr. Elbegdorj Tsakhi, President of Mongolia, attended and delivered a statement at the High-Level Forum of Landlocked Developing Countries, which convened on the theme “Linking Landlocked Developing Countries to Global Opportunities” on 28 September, 2015 on the margins of the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

“As we approach a new era of development thinking, the role of the International Think Tank for LLDCs on the discussions of the implementation of the SDGs becomes even more important to our Group” said President Ts.Elbegdorj and he recalled the remaining fellow members of the group to become a party to the treaty with a view to fully operationalizing activities of the International Think Tank.   

The group decided to raise the level of the Ministerial Meeting and convene the current meeting at the level of heads of state and government having considered the recent gathering of LLDCs at the ministerial level at the High Level Meeting on the Follow-Up to the Second UN Conference on LLDCs held in Livingstone on 2-4 June, 2015. H.E. Mr. Mogens Lykketoft, President of the UN General Assembly, attended and made an opening speech at the High-Level Forum, which was chaired by the President of Zambia. Several landlocked developing countries, including Tajikistan, Malawi, Nepal, Bhutan, Botswana, Lesotho, Laos PDR, participated at the level of heads of state and government and delivered statements respectively on their pressing issues, further actions and opportunities for partnerships.
