Tuvalu Co-Leads Launch of Ocean Pioneers Coalition at UNGA80 to Advance Global Ocean Action

Tuvalu joined France and Panama in co-leading the newly launched Ocean Pioneers Coalition, announced during UNGA High-Level Week.

Minister of Home Affairs, Climate Change and Environment, Hon. Dr Maina Vakafua Talia affirmed: “Tuvalu is defined by the ocean. It sustains our livelihoods, shapes our culture, and embodies our very existence. Yet climate change, sea level rise, and unsustainable exploitation threatened our future.”

With these words, the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, H.E. Feleti Penitala Teo, addressed the High-Level Meeting commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, during UNGA80.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Tuvalu’s commitment to gender equality, noting progress through constitutional reforms, stronger education outcomes for girls, greater participation of women in public service and civil society, and the adoption of a modern National Gender Equity Policy.

High Level Solutions Dialogue on Climate Change Adaption

Earlier today at UN Headquarters, the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, H.E. Feleti Penitala Teo, delivered Tuvalu’s statement at the High-Level Solutions Dialogue on Climate Change Adaptation.

For Tuvalu and other Small Island Developing States, adaptation is the line between survival and disappearance. The Prime Minister called for an Adaptation Package at COP30 that delivers real protection, backed by finance that reaches communities when it matters: timely, predictable and accessible.

Tuvalu Endorses Declaration on Protection of Humanitarian Personnel at UNGA80

Tuvalu supported the Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel during the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) on 21 September 2025.

Hon. Paulson Panapa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, represented Tuvalu in endorsing the Declaration, which reaffirmed commitment to international humanitarian and human rights law. It emphasized the safety of aid workers, particularly national and local personnel, and called for safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance.
