Foreign Minister briefs the Colombo-based Diplomatic Corps on current developments

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism Vijitha Herath chaired a briefing for the members of the Colombo-based Diplomatic Corps at the Ministry on Tuesday, 02 September 2025.

During the briefing, Minister Herath outlined the progress achieved by the Government since taking office 11 months ago, emphasizing several key transformative initiatives launched to protect and promote the rights and wellbeing of all Sri Lankans. He reaffirmed the Government’s firm and genuine commitment to achieving this objective.

The Minister also highlighted the measures taken by the Government to strengthen the domestic reconciliation mechanisms, including the Office on Missing Persons (OMP), the Office for Reparations (OR), and the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR). In addition, the Minister also briefed on the concrete progress made on the Government’s anti-corruption drive, Clean Sri Lanka programme, and in drafting new counter terrorism legislation and proposed amendments to the Online Safety Act.

Minister Herath requested for the continued acknowledgement and encouragement of the Diplomatic community with regard to the transformative path that the Government has undertaken and urged them to support the national processes that have been set in motion to advance reconciliation and human rights, uphold the rule of law and ensuring inclusive economic growth.

Secretary/Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, representatives from the Ministry of Justice and National Integration, the Attorney General’s Department, Office on Missing Persons, Office for Reparations, Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, together with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism were also present at the briefing.
