Late Cde. Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, Namibian independence leader, dies at 93

Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, a Namibian independence leader whose struggle against his country’s South African rulers landed him for 16 years in the infamous Robben Island prison, where with his steadfastness he earned the admiration of Nelson Mandela, a fellow inmate, died June 9. He was 92.

His death was reported by the Associated Press and by Namibian outlets including New Era, which said Mr. ya Toivo died at his home in a suburb of Windhoek, the country’s capital, of a suspected heart attack.

Namibia receives N$49 million for drought assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

Of this amount, N$21 million will be used to buy eight water tanker trucks and promote community and school sanitation, while the the rest will be for drought relief.

The relief will be extended to malnourished people living with HIV, pregnant and breatsfeeding mothers, orphans, and vulnerable children in food insecure areas.

the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption

 

On 31 January 2017, the 28th Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government appointed eleven (11) Members of the AU Advisory Board on Corruption, for a two-year term (2017-2019).
