Namibia was elected one of the 5 the Vice-Presidents of the International Conference on financing for Development (Monterry, Mexico).
1999 - 2000
Namibia served as a member of the Security Council and presided over the work of the Council in August 1999 and October 2000. During that period Ambassador M. Andjabaled led Security council Missions to Indonesia and East Timor from 8 to 12 September 1999 and from 9 to 18 November 2000 .
From 4 - 8 May 2000 Namibia participated in the Security Council Mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Great Lakes Region, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Hon. Dr. Theo-Ben Gurirab, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, served as the President of the 54th Session of the UNGA. This Session successfully prepared for the Millennium Summit which adopted the historic Millennium Declaration and was co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Sam Nujoma, Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and H.E. Tarja Halonen, President of Finland.
Namibia served as Vice-Chairman in the Third Committee of the 55th Session (2000)
