It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United Nations. It is my sincere hope that you will find the information contained in the site useful and that if it not to your expectations, you will not hesitate to inform us so that we may try to improve it.
Lesotho has been a member of the United Nations since she gained her independence in 1966. During that time she has tried to live within the norms established by the international community through the United Nations. Lesotho places great store by the four underlying principles and objectives of the United Nation, namely,
- the maintainance of international peace and security;
- the development of friendly relations among nations;
- the achievement of international co-operation in economic, social, cultural and humanitarian matters as well as in the promotion and encouragement of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms;
- the harmonisation of actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.
Through this website we intend to provide a window to show how Lesotho's participation in the work of the United Nations contributes to the attainment of these objectives. Secondly, the site will provide links to other sites that give information about Lesotho, its history, economy, culture and other aspects of its life. In this way the many people who write to the Permanent Mission in search of information about the country will be greatly assisted in their search.
As I have said earlier, we hope that you will help us give you the kind of information that you need by not hesitating to draw to our attention to improvements that you feel could be made.
