PM BAINIMARAMA ADDRESSES LEADERS AT PEACEKEEPING SUMMIT 73RD UNGA.

Fijian Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama reminded leaders of Fiji’s 40 years of commitment towards peacekeeping and the great service it has offered to all Fijian families.

He made the comments at the High Level meeting on Action for Peacekeeping held at the Trustee Council Chamber, United Nations General Assembly on 25th September, 2018.

“Today, we honour that great legacy of service and all of the lives saved by those courageous men and women peacekeepers in the decades since the first peacekeepers put boots on the ground in areas fraught with violence and conflict.”

“This year also marks 40 years of service from Fijian women and men serving in UN Peacekeeping Operations. For 40 years, Fijians have made our contribution to defending the defenceless, fighting for the right of people everywhere to live in peace, security and stability.”

Prime Minister Bainimarama adds that for 40 years, Fijian peacekeepers have served honourably, with courage, discipline and tenacity when tested in the line of duty.

“For 40 years, Fijians have sacrificed, leaving behind families and loved ones who anxiously await their return, as they serve a cause larger than themselves, with some making the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of global peace.”

He said Fiji’s contribution to UN Peacekeeping has been the pride of every Fijian because while we may be a small country, we’ve shown ourselves more than willing to do our part to protect the innocent, shield the vulnerable and uphold the basic human rights of all people.
