MOBILISING OCEAN-CLIMATE ACTION AT ALL LEVELS FOR INCREASED CLIMATE AMBITION

Fiji's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Satyendra Prasad delivered a keynote address for an event on “Mobilising ocean-climate action at all levels for increased climate ambition” at COP26. The event highlighted the importance of activities carried out at the domestic, regional and international platform within the ocean-climate nexus, as these activities were critical to “fitting together the fragmented puzzle pieces” which encapsulate ocean action.

Ambassador Prasad, highlighted Fiji’s progress within the ocean space through the National Ocean Policy and its function as a legislative proxy that integrate actions of the multiple implementing agencies within the ocean dimension spanning its multiple thematic areas such as security, biodiversity and sustainable development. Ambassador Prasad concluded by emphasising the need for strong leadership and coordination needed from respective bodies such as the Friends of the Ocean to be able to ensure that the oceans are recognised within the UNFCCC processes.

The event was organised in partnership with RARE, Fiji, Ocean Conservancy, and the IPBC.
