CANADA’S FIJI DISASTER RELIEF SOCIETY DONATES $27,300 TO PM’S NATIONAL DISASTER RELIEF AND REHABILITATION FUND

Fiji’s Honorary Consul in San Francisco, Mr Jay Singh today donated FJD$32,000 to the Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund for TC Yasa.

On behalf of the Hon. Prime Minister, Fiji’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Ambassador Satyendra Prasad thanked Mr. Singh for this generous and timely support.

Ambassador Prasad acknowledged Mr. Singh for his efforts in mobilizing the Fijian diaspora and friends of Fiji, through the Fiji-American National Association (FANA) to support the relief and rehabilitation efforts currently underway.

“Given the scale of the destruction, the recovery process will require sustained support; from Fiji’s diaspora and its friends from Fiji’s development partners to overcome the far-reaching socio-economic impacts of TC Yasa”.

Hon. Consul Jay Singh has called on Fiji’s diaspora in North America to be “generous in its support via the Prime Minister’s Cyclone Relief and Rehabilitation Fund so that the Government through the NDMO can provide a coordinated response to Fijian families and communities affected by this cyclone with speed and with great effect”.

The devastation caused by TC Yasa is widespread; across Bua and Cakaudrove Provinces in the Northern Division, in the outer islands of Lomaiviti and Lau Group, and across villages in parts of Rewa, Tailevu, Ra and the Yasawa Islands.

Thousands of families are in urgent need of life saving support including food, shelters, emergency healthcare.
