Meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government

On May 29, 2020, within the framework of the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the CIS, a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government took place via videoconference.

 

The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov.

 

The event was attended by the Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan – Ali Asadov, Belarus – Sergei Rumas, Kazakhstan – Askar Mamin, Moldova – Ion Chicu, Russia – Mikhail Mishustin, Tajikistan – Kohir Rasulzoda, Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Erkin Asrandiev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev.

 

The participants focused on the current issues of economic cooperation within the CIS, as well as joint measures in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

 

Following the discussion, a Statement was adopted by the Heads of Government of the CIS member states in connection with the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection. By the decision of the council, the text of this document will be distributed to the UN, WHO and other international organizations.

 

In order to create favorable conditions for sustainable economic development, improve the living standards and welfare of citizens of the CIS member states, the parties also approved the Commonwealth Economic Development Strategy for the period until 2030.

 

Following the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, 14 documents were signed aimed at developing cooperation in transport, energy, construction, education, culture, tourism, physical education and sports, as well as youth policy.

 

The parties supported the proposal of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth to hold the next meeting of the Council of Heads of Government in November this year in Uzbekistan.
