On 1 December 2015, the UAE Mission to the United Nations celebrated the UAE’s founding with a reception in honor of National Day. Dozens of Permanent Representatives to the UN attended the reception, as well as senior UN officials – including UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson – and leaders from the greater New York City community.
New York, October 28: The United Arab Emirates has won a second three-year term membership of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), starting from the beginning of 2016 and ending in late 2018.
New York, NY – Ahead of the fifteenth anniversary of the adoption of resolution 1325 in October 2015, the UAE Mission to the United Nations worked to promote Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda within the UN community and beyond. These activities included convening experts to further debates on the topic and publishing the findings of those discussions; contributing to UN efforts to support the WPS agenda; and participating in related Open Debates at the Security Council.
The UAE Mission to the UN and the visiting UAE delegation advanced critical issues on the global agenda during UN General Assembly Ministerial Week this fall, as the UN celebrated its 70th anniversary and adopted ambitious new targets for achieving its global mandate. The UAE delegation consisted of five cabinet members and their teams. Ministers from capital had more than 100 bilateral meetings in total and hosted numerous multilateral events.
New York, NY – The United Arab Emirates celebrated the occasion of the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly with a reception at the Morgan Library. Senior UN leadership, diplomats, and distinguished members of the New York City community attended the reception, an annual event hosted by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates. This year’s reception focused on the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.
New York, July 23: On Thursday, the UAE Mission to UN took part in an open debate held at the United Nations Security Council in New York to discuss the situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian question. The meeting was chaired Murray McCully, the Foreign Minister of New Zealand which assumed the Council’s presidency for the month of July.
New York, July 8: The United Arab Emirates joined over 80 countries, international organizations, and companies at the United Nations in New York on July 7-8 for the 18th Plenary of the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia. Chaired by the European Union, the plenary focused on major policy areas such as capacity building in the region off the coast of Somalia anti-piracy operations, mitigation actions by the international community and the disruption of piracy networks ashore.
New York, July 2: The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Latvia today concluded the first phase of co-facilitating the United Nations’ review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), a landmark global process to work towards a vision of a people-centered, inclusive and development oriented Information Society. 
New York, June 17: On Wednesday, diplomats from 17 countries completed an intensive course in international law held by the Institute for Executive Education (IEE) of New York University School of Law. The course was the first of the IEE’s customized programmes sponsored and developed jointly and by the United Arab Emirates Mission to the United Nations (UN).
