Establishment of Diplomatic Relations with the Republic of Nauru

H.E. Marlene Moses, Ambassador, Permanent Representatve of the Republic of Nauru to the United Nations -NY. 

 

On 5 October 2018 diplomatic relations were established between the Sovereign Order of Malta and the Republic of Nauru through the signing of a protocol at the seat of Nauru’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York  in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, and with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomaoc Relations of 18th April 1961. 

The agreement was signed by Amb. Oscar R. de Rojas y Villa, Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations and Amb. Marlene Moses, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Nauru at the United Nations.

Island country in Micronesia, Nauru has been independent since 1968, and today has about 10,000 inhabitants.

The agreement with the Republic of Nauru raises the number of countries that have diplomatic relations with the Sovereign Order of Malta to 108.
