MINISTER S.ERDENE MADE STATEMENT AT 60TH SESSION OF THE UN COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN

The sixtieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 60) is taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 14 to 24 March 2016 under the priority theme "Women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development."

On 15 March 2015, Mr. Sodnomzundui ERDENE, Minister for Population Development and Social Protection of Mongolia made statement at the Ministerial segment of the CSW 60.

While reaffirming Government of Mongolia's persistent commitment to the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcome of the twenty-third Special session of the General Assembly, Minister S.Erdene shared recent  developments in national policies, legislation and follow-up actions to ensure gender equality and women's empowerment. Among activities underlined to improve the status of women, legislative measures such as the Law on Development policy planning approved on 5 February 2016, amendments to the Criminal Code, Law on Elections and Law on Rights of Disabled Persons, new laws on Misdemeanor and on Childcare Services and social development goals to eliminate poverty by creating efficient system of universal coverage by social security and targeted welfare, to create a citizen friendly society  ensuring income inequality and providing appropriate standards of health insurance and services to ensure their health, longevity and lifetime education, were of particular interest to the audience.  

The Commission's session is consisting of four Ministerial roundtables, voluntary presentations by 10 member states (Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, Estonia, Japan, Romania, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey) on their progress towards ending violence against women and more than 200 side events on different issues of gender equality and women's empowerment.
