On 7 October 2015, Mr. Erdene Sodnomzundui, Minister for Population Development and Social Protection of Mongolia made statement on social development issues at the Third Committee of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In the beginning of his speech, the Minister S.Erdene underlined that "As 9 out of 17 global goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recently adopted at the United Nations Summit are related to social issues, we are in the beginning of historic époque to end poverty, reduce inequalities and protect the environment which will be realized through our common zeal and commitment."
Further, he introduced the national policies and programs targeted at youth, elderly, persons with disabilities and family development and briefed about further goals on population development to be implemented in relation to the SDGs. Highlights made by the Minister S.Erdene in regard to social development issues included, but not limited to the 2009 National Strategy on Population Ageing, the Pension Reform Policy for 2015-2030, establishment of the National Youth Committee and opening of Youth Development Centers in rural areas in cooperation with UNFPA. He also underlined effective activities conducted within the framework of the 2014 Year of Family in Mongolia and submission of the draft Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to the Parliament of Mongolia.
