FOREIGN MINISTER L.PUREVSUREN ATTENDED THE 9TH CONFERENCE ON FACILITATING THE ENTRY INTO FORCE OF THE COMPREHENSIVE NUCLEAR-TEST-BAN TREATY

Foreign Minister L.Purevsuren attended the 9th Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty held in New York on 29 September 2015, and delivered a speech expressing Mongolia’s position on the issue. Minister emphasized that entering the treaty into force is essential to the global effort towards nuclear disarmament.

Minister L.Purevsuren noted that, Mongolia supports and seeks to contribute to the nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament goals. He further mentioned that in 1992 Mongolia declared its’ territory a nuclear weapon free state zone and in 1997 became a state signatory to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and is currently cooperating with all relevant parties.

Minister L.Purevsuren called upon all the states to contribute to and intensify their efforts towards nuclear non-proliferation and stated that Mongolia supports the Final Declaration to be adopted by the Conference.

Mongolia signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty on 1 October 1996 and ratified it on 8 August 1997.
