CHAIRMAN OF THE STATE GREAT HURAL ATTENDED IN A CEREMONY OF DEDICATION OF THE COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE AT THE “TREE OF PEACE AND UNITY”

On September 2, 2015, Mongolian legislators headed by Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) Z.Enkhbold have attended in a ceremony of dedication of the commemorative plaque at the “Tree of Peace and Unity” marking the end of the Second World War in Asia and the Pacific, which was organized at United Nations Headquarters, New York City, U.S.
The opening remarks were delivered by Andrei Dapkiunas, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations and Saber Chowdhury, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Speaking at the event, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Saber Chowdhury said, “We parliamentarians represent the people, we value the growing cooperation between the UN, Parliaments and the IPU. The plaque dedicated today is as reminder of the past, but also an opportunity to “make a pledge for the future” The weeping cherry tree was planted last May on international soil to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by mutual understandings”.

A special ceremony, co-organized by the Permanent Missions of nearly fifty countries to the UN, was held for the dedication of the commemorative plaque at the “Tree of Peace and Unity”. The Tree was planted on the grounds of the UN headquarters on May 5, 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the founding of the United Nations.
