54TH SESSION OF THE COMMISSION ON SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT TAKING PLACE

The 54th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD54) is
taking place in New York at United Nations Headquarters in New York under the priority
theme “Rethinking and strengthening social development in the contemporary world”.

The session will consist of general debates on the priority theme and "Review of
relevant United Nations plans and programmes of action pertaining to the situation of
social groups" and panel discussions on "Emerging issues: implementing the 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development: moving from commitments to results for
achieving social development" and "The implementation of the post-2015 development
agenda in the light of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" bringing
together representatives of governments, civil society, academia and UN organizations.

The session convening on 3-12 February 2016 will culminate in adoption of
outcome documents and resolutions on "Rethinking and Strengthening social
development in the contemporary world", “Future organization and methods of work of
the Commission for Social Development” and "Social dimensions of the New
Partnership for Africa’s Development.
