H.E. Mr. Thongphane SAVANPHET,Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Lao PDR to the UN at the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board Annual Session 2026 Item7: Interactive Dialogue with the UNDP Administrator: Annual Report of the UNDP Administrator

Wednesday, 10 June 2026

Mr. President,

Mr. Administrator,

Excellencies,

1. My delegation would like to express our appreciation to the UNDP Administrator for presenting the Annual Report 2025 and commends UNDP for its continued dedication to advancing sustainable development in an increasingly complex global environment.

2. The Lao PDR appreciates the remarkable achievements highlighted in the report. Despite growing challenges, including conflicts, climate shocks and constrained development financing, UNDP continued to deliver tangible results, supporting millions of people through poverty reduction, governance, resilience-building, climate action and digital transformation initiatives.

3. These achievements demonstrate the enduring value of multilateralism and the critical role of UNDP as a trusted development partner. We particularly welcome UNDP's efforts to promote resilience, strengthen institutions, expand opportunities for women and vulnerable groups, and mobilize innovative solutions to accelerate implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

4. At the same time, we are concerned by the continued decline in core resources. Predictable and flexible funding remains essential for UNDP to maintain its operational capacity, respond to emerging challenges and support countries in achieving their national development priorities. We therefore encourage Member States and partners to strengthen support for regular resources and multi-year funding commitments.

5. In Lao PDR, UNDP remains a valued and longstanding partner, supporting national efforts in poverty reduction, governance, climate resilience, environmental protection, disaster risk reduction and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We appreciate UNDP's country-focused approach and its contribution to strengthening national capacities.

6. As we look ahead, we encourage UNDP to continue supporting developing countries, particularly least developed countries and landlocked developing countries, in mobilizing development finance, harnessing innovation and addressing the impacts of climate change while ensuring that no one is left behind.

7. The Lao PDR reaffirms its strong support for UNDP and looks forward to further strengthening our partnership in pursuit of sustainable and inclusive development.

I thank you
