HOUSE PAYS TRIBUTE TO LADY COOKE

KINGSTON, June 14 (JIS):

The House of Representatives on Tuesday (June 13) paid tribute to Her Excellency, the Most Hon. Lady Ivy Cooke, who died on June 5.

Lady Cooke, who was the widow of former Governor-General, Sir Howard Cooke, passed away at the age of 100 years, leaving behind two sons, Howard Cooke Jr. and Richard Cooke, and one daughter, Audrey Cooke.

In his tribute, Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, said Lady Cooke lived a long life, distinguished by service to the nation, the field of education and to her family.

EDUCATION MINISTRY TO ALLOCATE $1 BILLION TO SUPPORT SCHOOLS

KINGSTON, June 14 (JIS):                                                                                                             The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is to allocate $1 billion in budgetary support to primary, all-age and junior high schools for the 2017-2018 academic year.

            This is in line with the Ministry’s commitment to provide greater support to schools to improve the quality of education in Jamaica.                                                                           

TWO NEW TRUCKS FOR FIRE BRIGADE

KINGSTON, June 14 (JIS):                                                            

The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) is to receive two new Rosenbauer fire trucks, valued at US$1.15 million.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, signed the contract for the purchase, at his Hagley Park Road offices in Kingston, on June 13.

Mr.  McKenzie said the Government is resolute in ensuring that the fleet of the JFB is improved as well as the physical condition under which the men and women of the service have to operate islandwide.

LEGISLATIVE PRODUCTION SYSTEM AND DRAFTING MANUAL LAUNCHED

KINGSTON, June 14 (JIS):

The process by which the country’s laws are drafted is to be significantly improved with the introduction of the Legislative Production Management System and Legislative Drafting Manual.

Justice Minister, Hon. Delroy Chuck, launched the software system and manual at his Constant Spring Road offices in St. Andrew on June 8.

They were developed under the Justice Undertakings for Social Transformation (JUST) Programme, which is funded by the Canadian Government and implemented by the Justice Reform Implementation Unit (JRIU) in the Ministry.
