MINISTER JOHNSON SMITH TO ATTEND WORLD ASSEMBLY FOR WOMEN IN JAPAN

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is currently in Brussels, Belgium for the 19th ACP Ministerial Trade Committee (MTC) and the 14th Joint ACP-EU Ministerial Trade Committee meetings from December 7-8 and December 9, respectively.

The Minister will then depart from Brussels for Tokyo, Japan, where, at the invitation of the Government of Japan, she will participate in the World Assembly for Women (WAW!), scheduled for December 13-15. There she will make a presentation on the contribution of Jamaican women to the country’s political, economic and social development during the High-Level Round Table on day two of WAW!

WAW!, an initiative of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and part of his ‘womenomics’ strategy, aimed at helping more Japanese women enter the workforce, will see the Executive Director of UN Women, Ms. Phumsile Mlambo-Ngcuka and other such world leaders and figures in attendance.
