DIPLOMATIC WEEK INFORMATION BULLETIN
Airport transportation courtesies are provided to Designate High Commissioners and Ambassadors only. The courtesy is NOT accorded to Heads of Missions who are already accredited or to their accompanying delegation members. Transportation is provided for Designate Heads of Mission and their spouses from arrival to departure. However, this courtesy will not be provided beyond the weekend following the end of the official activities. Where Heads of Mission opt to remain in Jamaica beyond this period, they are expected to undertake private transportation arrangements.
NB: Transportation will however be provided for all Heads (including those already accredited) in respect of the following events (Briefings & Addresses, Diplomatic Dinner, Excursion). Missions should note that the Government VIP Lounge will provide meeting courtesies for all accredited Heads and their delegations.
Participating High Commissioners/Ambassadors and Designate Heads are expected to make arrangements for their own accommodation. The Protocol Department is however prepared to assist with securing reservations where requested, on behalf of Heads/Designates. The use of hotels within the proximity of the Ministry is highly recommended, as this will facilitate the transportation arrangements. These Hotels are: The Jamaica Pegasus, The Courtleigh Hotel & Suites and The Spanish Court Hotel.
The following dress code is applicable:
Diplomatic Dinner – Black Tie/National Dress
Presentation Ceremonies – Business Suit/National Dress
All Briefings/Addresses – Business Suit/National Dress
Indoor Tours – Business Suit
Outdoor Tours/Excursion (Business Casual)
WHO CAN ATTEND EVENTS
It should be noted that delegation members, including Honorary Consuls representing the sending state, are usually invited to the Welcome Reception. The Ministry is prepared to allow the attendance, on notification, of a limited number of delegation members at Ministerial briefings.
CEREMONY FOR THE PRESENTATION OF CREDENTIALS
Designate High Commissioners and Ambassadors should refer to the Guidelines for the presentation ceremony, which will be sent to all Designate Heads of Missions. It is anticipated that there will be a single presentation ceremony. Delegation members attending the presentation ceremony will be transported separately from the Designate and his/her spouse and outside of this event, will be responsible for their own transportation.
National Flags: Missions, will be advised, as necessary, of any need for participating Heads of Missions to travel with national flags (standard & car size), where the flag design has been subject to amendment during the past five years or where the Department is out of stock of a particular flag.
