Guyana Co-hosts Webinar on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment

On Wednesday February 16, Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, co-hosted a Webinar for Permanent Representatives on the priority theme of thr 66th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women - “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes”. The other co-hosts were UN Women Executive Director Sima Sami Bahous and the Permanent Representatives of South Africa, Sweden and Kenya.

Guyana on Executive Board of UN Women

In 2021, Guyana was elected to the Executive Board of UN Women - the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The Board is currently holding its first Session for 2022.

In remarks during the opening segment, Guyana's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett congratulated the newly elected President of the Board and other members of the Bureau, and welcomed new Executive Director of UN Women, Ms. Sima Sami Bahous. Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett said -

Guyanese Youth Delegates Participate in Youth Event at 60th Session of the Commission for Social Development

This morning Youth delegates for Guyana and Young Influencers attached to the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, Sarah Ann Dhanraj and Nkosi Jupiter, presented at a Youth Event in the margins of the United Nations 60th Session of the Commission for Social Development, speaking on the role of youth in tackling poverty and hunger at local, regional and international level.

The event was was organized by the Permanent Mission of Portugal, the Delegation of the European Union, UN DESA and the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth.
