The Independent State of Samoa and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago formally established diplomatic relations on 25 August 2026 through the signing of Joint Communiqués. The documents were endorsed by H.E. Mr. Fatumanava-o-Upolu III Dr. Pa’olelei Luteru, Permanent Representative of Samoa to the United Nations, on behalf of Samoa, and H.E. Dr. Neil Parsan, Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations.

Before the signing, Ambassador Luteru referred to the partnership and cooperation the two countries have already enjoyed, as well as their shared recognition of the importance of multilateralism in addressing common challenges. He said that he looked forward to working together on issues of importance and concern to both countries.

Ambassador Parsan expressed his gratitude for Samoa’s support to Trinidad and Tobago’s recent Security Council campaign and affirmed his country’s commitment to being a responsible Security Council member, particularly regarding issues affecting Small Island Developing States. He also said that he looked forward to strengthening relations through bilateral opportunities, including cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
