The Philippines endorses the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (SF-MST) and recognizes it as a transformative tool for addressing critical data gaps within the environmental, social, and economic aspects of tourism.
The Philippines has been one of the pilot countries in the implementation of the initiatives in the development of its statistical framework for MST and is also a member of the Committee on Statistics of the Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
We actively participated in the efforts of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in developing the framework through participation and provision of inputs in its technical meetings and symposia.
Starting in 2021, the Philippine Statistics Authority compiles indicators on Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (MST) with the following indicators: water consumption, energy consumption, and carbon dioxide emission. Currently, we are in the process of improving the methodology and developing additional relevant indicators in the MST.
We commend the leadership of the UNWTO Committee on Statistics and the Expert Group on MST in spearheading the development of this comprehensive framework. We strongly support the need for a robust implementation program, and we are confident that their continued leadership will be instrumental in ensuring its successful execution.
