UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK, 12 September 2024 — At the Summit of the Future Global Call on 12 September 2024, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reiterated the Philippines' strong commitment to multilateralism and its support for the strategic role of the United Nations in promoting a rules-based global order.

President Marcos also reaffirmed the Philippines' dedication to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supporting innovative solutions to accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda.

As host of the Board of the Loss and Damage Fund (LDF), he said that the Philippines will ensure that the voices of those most affected by climate change are prioritized in shaping international climate policies, emphasizing the need for global collaboration based on common but differentiated responsibilities to build a climate-resilient future.

“As a reliable partner, peacemaker and pathfinder that champions the cause of peace, progress, resilience and sustainable development, the Philippines will be an active participant in the implementation of the Pact for the Future,” the President said, citing the need to address global challenges such as climate change, cybersecurity, and inequality, and promoting diplomacy, international law, human rights, and equitable global governance.

He also underscored the importance of reforms in the international financial system, digital governance, and inclusive participation, advocating for a Global Digital Compact and the Declaration for Future Generations.

“We are confident that the landmark documents we will adopt at the Summit of the Future will provide opportunities that will contribute to reinvigorating the foundations of our existing multilateral system, which have been challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, new challenges like cyber warfare and emerging technologies, food and energy insecurity, and the planetary crisis,” the President added.

The Summit of the Future Global Call offered a platform to hear the voices of UN Member States at the highest political level on their hopes and aspirations for the upcoming Summit of the Future from 22 to 23 September 2024 at the UN headquarters in New York. END
