Ambassador Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. and MPTFO Deputy Executive Director sign the Standard Administrative Arrangement (SAA) for the Philippines’ contribution to the UN Haiti Cholera Response Multi-Partner Trust Fund
12 January 2018, New York - Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. signed today the Standard Administrative Arrangement (SAA) to facilitate the transfer of the Philippines’ modest voluntary contribution to the UN Haiti Cholera Response Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF).
The MPTF Office was represented by Ms. Henriette Keijzers, Deputy Executive Coordinator.
“The Philippines’ modest voluntary contribution to the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund was made in solidarity with the people of Haiti and in support for our collective responsibility under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” Ambassador Locsin said.
The Trust Fund’s aim is not only to significantly improve access to care and treatment in the short term but also address issues of water and sanitation and health systems in the long-term in Haiti, which are essential to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG #6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
The Philippines co-sponsored the General Assembly resolution on “The UN approach to cholera in Haiti” which was adopted by consensus on 13 July 2017. The resolution invites Member States, regional, international and bilateral donors, financial institutions, the private sector and other donors, to provide further voluntary financial and other appropriate support to the new approach.
In January 2015, the Philippines also entered into a Standard Administrative Arrangement with the MPTFO when it contributed to the Ebola Response Multi-Partner Trust Fund. END
