UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK, 20 OCTOBER 2022– At the interactive dialogue between Member States and the Resident Coordinators on 20 October 2022 hosted by the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO), Ambassador and Permanent Representative Antonio M. Lagdameo reaffirmed Philippines’ support for the reforms of the UN development system to ensure that UN Country Teams led by Resident Coordinators are fit-for-purpose, guided by and in support of host government’s priorities and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ambassador Lagdameo called on the Resident Coordinator system to have a collaborative and participative approach in engaging with all Member States. In measuring and ensuring accountability of reforms, he recommended, as success metrics, “the inclusion of resource mobilization; transparency in resource management; and sustainability and continuous implementation by the national government of proposed and/or pilot initiatives by the UN system.”

The Ambassador also informed the meeting of the efforts and priorities of the Philippines towards an economic transformation that is anchored on productivity, inclusivity and sustainability. To complement and support these national efforts, Ambassador Lagdameo recalled and expressed appreciation for the Secretary-General’s call for a complete revamping of developing cooperation dynamic with middle-income countries, including a total revision of the criteria used to measure development.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed welcomed the Dialogue and emphasized that the meeting is about full ownership and leadership by Member States over the work of the United Nations development system. The Presidents of the UN General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) also participated in the meeting. END
