The Philippines as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for this year, led by Ambassador Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., organized the ASEAN Family Day which was held on 19 September 2017 in Astoria Park, New York. The Permanent Representatives of 10 ASEAN Member States to the United Nations of Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam, its officers and staff and their families actively participated the event.
The ASEAN Family Day is a traditional activity hosted annually by the ASEAN Committee in New York and is more significantly celebrated this year in line with the commemoration of the ASEAN’s 50th Founding Anniversary. The personnel and their families participated in the various fun-filled games which fostered friendship, strengthened unity among the ASEAN community in New York, and highlighted the importance of the ASEAN spirit of “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”.The event also introduced a taste of unique cuisine with a potluck lunch prepared by each of the represented ASEAN countries.
