Today, the resolution titled “International Day of Women in Diplomacy”, of which Guyana was a main sponsor, was adopted by consensus in the United Nations General Assembly Hall.
The resolution was co-sponsored by a record 191 countries.
As a result, International Day of Women in Diplomacy will be celebrated annually on 24th June.
The establishment of this International Day would allow for the United Nations, national governments, civil society, the private sector, schools, universities and other actors to use the day as a springboard for awareness-raising actions. It also provides an annual opportunity to reflect on advances that women have made in the field of diplomacy and on actions that have and can be taken at various levels to recognize and further promote women in diplomacy.
