Permanent Representative of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to the United Nations, Ambassador Rudolph M. Ten-Pow addressed Japanese students and their Professor, Dr. Ueki Yasuhiro on UN Diplomacy from the Guyana Perspective as a Developing Country.  The students who currently attend Sophia and Kanazawa Universities in Japan visited the UN Headquarters as a component of a UN Studies program offered by the Universities.  

Ambassador Ten-Pow is the first non-Japanese Ambassador invited to address the students on issues of Diplomacy. He shared on his experiences as a Diplomat representing Guyana both nationally and internationally and provided the group with many interesting historical and geographic facts on Guyana. During the address, the Ambassador told the students that the work of a Diplomat is both rewarding and challenging since it brings a sense of pride to advance, protect and defend your country’s national interest but the challenge comes in the reconciling of national interest with global interest. The event ended with a lively Q&A session between Ambassador Ten-Pow and the students on issues such as Multi-lateral and Bilateral Diplomacy, Human Rights, International Law, Migration and Climate Change.
