PRESS RELEASE NYPM F-10-2012 29 SEPTEMBER 2012 PHL-SRI LANKA REAFFIRM TIES, SEEK WAYS TO FURTHER EXPAND BILATERAL RELATIONS
UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS, NY 28 September 2012 The Philippines and Sri Lanka reaffirmed their bilateral ties and sought ways to further expand relations between the two countries, noting the “conducive conditions” for broadening cooperation in various areas. Meeting at the sidelines of the 67 th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario and Sri Lanka Minister for External Affairs G.L. Peiris discussed, among others, the protection of the rights of migrant workers as well technical cooperation in migration management. Minister Peiris cited the Philippines as a leader in the efforts to protect the rights of its migrant workers with wide ranging expertise and experience from which other developing countries like Sri Lanka can learn. In the meeting, Minister Peiris likewise extended to Secretary del Rosario an invitation to visit Sri Lanka. Secretary del Rosario welcomed the invitation and expressed the hope that there will be more opportunities to explore wider collaboration between the Philippines and Sri Lanka. END
